After the discovery of a piece of cross, believe to have been brought to the area of Omodos in the early propagation of Christianity in Cyprus, the residents built a small chapel, which gradually brought the gathering of several monks, and has gradually been built in to the spectacular monastery it is today. It is believed to have been built before 327 AD, as there are writings of St. Helen leaving artifacts at the monastery at that date. While Omodos was not a village at that time, it is said that the village grew around the findings of this monastery and is now a beautiful village in the area of Limassol.
